Manuscripts from the National Library of Israel

Manuscripts from the collection of the National Library of Israel at the State Hermitage Museum. During 2019, as part of Israel’s 70th anniversary events at the State Hermitage Museum, unique and rare manuscripts exhibition which will be drawn from the collection of the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem, will be brought to the Hermitage.

The National Library, which has been functioning for over 120 years, holds around five million books and an innumerable amount of wonderful treasures, among them, ancient manuscripts, a unique collection of antique maps, books, magazines, posters, photographs, rare collections, including the biggest and most important collection of Jewish and Israeli music in the world.

The library, as one of the most important long-standing national institutions, curates the national memory of the Jewish nation and the State of Israel. The library is open to all and is a magnet not only for researches but also for the curious, for readers, youth and teenagers, with every visit exposing a different attraction.
