In celebration of the 75th Independence of the State of Israel, the State Hermitage Museum in Saint-Petersburg will hold an exclusive exhibition “Mystery of a Shrine from Khirbet Qeiyafa”.
The exhibition will open its doors to the public on the 29th of June 2023 at the Apollo Hall of the Winter Palace.
The discovery of the Shrine from Khirbet Qeiyafa is extraordinary as it is the first time that shrines from the time of early biblical kings were uncovered. They provide the first physical evidence of a cult in the time of King David, with significant implications for the fields of archaeology, history, biblical and religion studies.
The findings at Khirbet Qeiyafa indicate that an elaborate architectural style had developed as early as the time of King David and strengthen the historicity of the biblical tradition and its architectural description of the Palace and Temple of Solomon.
This exceptional exhibition is made possible thanks to a special collaboration with the Israeli Antiquities Authority and the long-lasting partnership between the State Hermitage Museum and the Hermitage Museum Foundation Israel and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The State of Israel.
